Remembering Richard Goldbloom

The team at RMHC Atlantic would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Richard B. Goldbloom, a pioneer of patient-family centered care and inductee to the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame.

From 1967-85, Richard served as the Physician-in-Chief and Director of Research at the IWK Health Centre, and the Professor and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Dalhousie University. Richard was chosen as the namesake of the IWK’s newest building, the Richard B. Goldbloom Pavilion for Research and Clinical Care. He was also a Past President of the Canadian Pediatric Society, and served on the Executive of the Medical Research Council.

Richard visited our Halifax Family Room before it opened in 2007, and was delighted for the services that it would provide for Maritime families. He was an inspiration to many, and his passion, innovation, and incredible work has left a lasting, significant impact on Canadian health care.
