Construction begins in 2022!

After careful consideration and in consultation with various stakeholders, the RMHC Atlantic team and Board of Directors have made the decision to move the start of construction of the new Ronald McDonald House to early 2022.

The following factors informed this decision:

    • We are still seeing notable volatility in the cost of materials and supplies. We’ve been working closely with industry experts who are confident that this instability will level out in the coming months, which will result in a more competitive tendering process (as a charity, we want to ensure the best use of donor-invested funds). Moving the start date will also reduce the additional expenses associated with winter construction.

    • The Government of Canada recently announced the new Green & Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) program, which has been created to support the construction of buildings that are more resilient, energy-efficient, and have a reduced carbon footprint. Improving our environmental impact is a priority of RMHC Atlantic, so we opted to apply for this funding. We will be notified of the outcome of our application in the fall; if we are successful, the new construction schedule will provide the necessary time required to modify the design, replacing our current electrical and mechanical systems with more energy efficient options.

We’re so grateful for all of those who have contributed and helped spread the word about this campaign, and we look forward to sharing more exciting news in the months to come!
