A message from our CEO


UPDATE – April 28th, 2020:

With all that has changed in the past month, we wanted to reach out to share some updates about how we’re working to support Maritime families during this difficult time.

We’re pleased to share that we’re working to arrange hotel stays for families with sick children requiring hospital care. This is in addition to the overnight rooms in our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms at the IWK Health Centre.

Our Family Services team quickly rallied to assemble and deliver “Care Kits” for families staying at the IWK Health Centre. These include toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, a clean pillow case, and other items that families may need while away from home with their sick child.

In recent weeks, we also supplied “Dial For Dining” gift cards for parents and families in need that will provide hot meals for those staying at the hospital.

And, we’re pleased to share that we’ve collaborated with the IWK to temporarily repurpose our Ronald McDonald Family Room to serve as a much-needed “Comfort Zone” to support the front-line healthcare workers that are working to keep our families safe. This space provides healthcare workers a place outside of their unit to recharge, relax, or exercise while on-site.

UPDATE – April 6th, 2020:

With the support of Ronald McDonald House Charities Canada and in close consultation with our hospital partners and health care authorities, all Ronald McDonald Houses across Canada made the difficult decision in March to stop admitting new families.

All families admitted to Ronald McDonald House in Halifax prior to March 13th have now completed their intended stay, and for the safety of our families and our community, our House is now closed.

Stay tuned on our website and on our social media channels for updates on ways we’re continuing to support Maritime families and our community during this difficult time.

Hello to our RMHC® families, friends, and supporters,

As the news surrounding coronavirus continues to evolve, Ronald McDonald House Charities® Atlantic’s primary concern continues to be the health and safety of the families we serve, our volunteers and staff.  As we monitor the ever-evolving information, we are keeping in close contact with our partners at the IWK Health Centre, provincial health authorities and our RMHC Global family for guidance and to ensure our response is proactive and unified.

RMHC Atlantic is committed to the provincial, national and global solution to flatten the curve and to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.  Where adjustments to program offerings have been recommended, and out of an abundance of caution, RMHC Atlantic has made the difficult decision to limit programs, volunteer activities and events to support the overall health and safety of our communities.

  • We are not accepting any new families in our Ronald McDonald House®.
  • Our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms® at the IWK and The Moncton Hospital are now closed.
  • All volunteer programs across the organization are suspended.
  • We are not accepting any visitors or deliveries to Ronald McDonald House

So many thanks and appreciation to our partners at the IWK, The Moncton Hospital, and other Maritime hospitals, who continue to provide essential medical services to children and their families.

To our families, volunteers, donors and partners – thank you for your support, patience and understanding as we navigate through this unprecedented time.  We will get through it by helping each other along the way.
