Hole in One

For one lucky golfer, our 20th Ronald McDonald House Golf Classic turned out to be the best one yet. Barry Gaul from Scotiabank, a regular participant in our tournament, experienced an unforgettable moment when he sunk a hole in one for a $25,000 prize!

“Our last shot of the day was for a hole in one prize,” recalls Barry. “I hit a seven iron towards the left fringe and initially thought the shot didn’t look that great in the air. It landed in the fringe and took a hard right towards the hole, hit the pin and went in. It took a few seconds to sink in then my team did a group happy dance. It was an amazing end to a great day!”

And a great day it was for the 133 golfers, 50 sponsors and 45 volunteers who gathered at Glen Arbour Golf Course on September 14th. Every year it is amazing to see the community come together to support families of sick children and this year’s event was the most successful to date raising $144,027! These funds will help provide 1,021 nights of comfort to families staying at Ronald McDonald House.

Participants got to hear firsthand the impact our programs have on families when Sheldon Drover shared his story about his eight month old daughter, Willow, who has an extremely rare condition known as Pallister Killian Syndrome.

“Since Willow’s birth, we have spent a total of 131 nights in hospital,” says Sheldon. “We are uncertain of what’s to come but knowing that we’ll be able to go through it with the support of the House and Family Rooms, brings comfort to us. We know we will be taken care of.”

Thank you to all of our supporters for their generosity and commitment to our families. They are the reason families like the Drovers, feel at home when staying with us.

Special congratulations to our Presenting Sponsor, McDonald’s Maritime Owner/Operators. They have been a part of our Golf Classic since its inception and are celebrating their own milestone this year of 50 years in Canada!
